Debunking some common myths about apprenticeships
“Apprenticeships are for school leavers” is a myth you have probably heard before, but apprenticeships may not be what you thought they were.
We’ve created this handy guide to uncover any other myths you may have heard because the truth is - apprenticeships have changed.
Myth 1 - "Apprenticeships are only for new staff – existing staff aren't eligible".
Most of our apprentices are existing staff looking to upskill and progress in their careers. Apprenticeships are an excellent route to career progression and development at any stage. Whether you are new to education and seeking qualifications or if you have been in your role for a decade looking to progress; an apprenticeship offers a flexible and free opportunity to grow and continue your career journey.
Myth 2 – “Apprenticeships are not real qualifications".
Our apprenticeships provide a defined qualification at level 3, which is the equivalent to 2 A levels! Apprenticeships also provide clear progression routes, and are even available at level 7 - the equivalent of a Master’s degree.
Myth 3 – “Apprenticeships are expensive".
Apprenticeships are always free to the learner themselves. All apprenticeship levy-paying employers can train their staff at no cost! Non-levy-paying employers will only contribute 5% of their budget to the training with the rest being subsidised by the government.
Myth 4 – “Apprenticeships are only for practical jobs”.
Apprenticeships are now available in pretty much every sector and industry. Our apprenticeships are for support staff in school or nursery settings, such as Early Years practitioners, teaching assistants and HR staff working in education. They help staff achieve a professional qualification during their normal working week.
So, as you can see, apprenticeships may not be what you thought they were. Around 65% of apprentices stay with their employer and 85% stay in employment, meaning apprenticeships offer a great opportunity for anyone contemplating career progression.
