We spoke with Ange Eames, Head of People and Governance at The Hyndburn Academy, who recently completed our HR Support Apprenticeship.

Ange originally started in the role of School Business Manager and completed the apprenticeship to further her knowledge and professional development, going on to progress into her current role. On her overall experience, Ange said:

“I had a really positive experience and feel the course has not only helped me in my career, but also helped to shape the support function at the school where I work.”

Speaking on how the course has benefitted her career, Ange said: “The course has massively increased my confidence. Before, if someone came into my office and asked a question that I didn’t know the answer to, I would have to say that I needed to ask a colleague and lean on others for support, whereas now I am able to confidently answer queries and if I’m unsure, I can confidently seek more information from relevant resources.”

Ange has been working as part of United Learning since 2017, when The Hyndburn Academy joined the Group. When asked what makes working in a United Learning school so special, she said: “United Learning is an amazing organisation with a brilliant ethos engrained in all of its schools. Wherever you go in United Learning, there is a clear, over-arching goal of providing the best education for children, and each school also has their own autonomy. My role involves going to lots of different schools, and I always get the feeling in each of them that everything they do is to improve the lives of children, whilst also being able to appreciate each school’s differences and distinct personalities.”

Ange positively recalled the support she received as part of the apprenticeship, saying: “The Apprenticeships team are incredibly supportive and are always there if you need them. Their feedback is prompt and helpful, enabling you to apply this to your next task. There is never a lack of support.”

Offering her advice for anyone considering an apprenticeship, Angela said: “Go for it. It’s a brilliant way to learn on the job, and it’s structured in a manageable and relevant way that is straight-forward to work through.”

Ange's top tip: “Keep to the deadlines you are given and allocate your time wisely and effectively.”

Completing an apprenticeship is a great way to expand your skillset and excel in your career. Contact our Apprenticeships team today to find out more: courses@unitedlearning.org.uk.
