Sara is a dedicated safeguarding leader with a passion for safeguarding and child protection.

Not only is Sara the DSL for the apprenticeship team, she is also the Safeguarding Officer for United Learning. With extensive experience in education and children’s services Sara has devoted her career to creating safe environments for both children and adults in order for them to achieve their full potential.

Head of Apprenticeships

Claire Jeens is Head of Apprenticeships at United Learning, leading the trust’s apprenticeship provision for school support staff. She is responsible for shaping and delivering high quality programmes that meet the needs of schools and provide meaningful development opportunities for learners.

Claire has worked in education for over a decade, with a particular focus on professional development and workforce learning. She is passionate about making apprenticeships work well in practice, balancing high standards and compliance with a thoughtful, people centred approach.

She has a strong focus on safeguarding and learner wellbeing, ensuring that safe, supportive environments are at the centre of every apprenticeship programme.

Claire leads a team across multiple programmes and is committed to creating a culture where staff feel supported, trusted and able to do their best work.

Head of Safeguarding for the Group

Frazer Smith holds the position of Head of Safeguarding for the Group. In this role, he leads the safeguarding efforts across the organisation, ensuring that we meet all necessary statutory requirements to safeguard our apprentices effectively.

Safeguarding support

At United Learning Apprenticeships, our commitment to continual improvement extends beyond our apprenticeship delivery to also encompass the safety and well-being of our apprentices. That's why we provide safeguarding support from 9am to 5pm, five days a week. 

While the online form above remains the primary point of contact, in urgent situations, don't hesitate to reach out to the police.

What does Safeguarding mean?

Safeguarding entails acknowledging and prioritising the needs, well-being, and safety of all apprentices and staff, ensuring that all actions taken align with relevant legislation, recommendations, and guidelines.

Does Safeguarding just apply to children?

No! At United Learning Apprenticeships, our policy outlines our commitment and duty to safeguard and uphold the welfare of all our apprentices and staff. This involves protecting them from physical, sexual, or emotional abuse, neglect, and bullying.

What is the purpose of United Learning Apprenticeships Safeguarding Policy?

The main aims of our policy are to ensure that our staff are working together and fully engaged in being vigilant about raising awareness and that we know what to do in the event of certain situations such as wanting to report a concern. 

What are my duties as an Employer?
  • To understand the concept of safeguarding and advocate for the well-being of apprentices.
  • Understand your legal obligations regarding individual welfare.
  • Familiarise yourself with our guidelines concerning reporting procedures.
  • Employers must ensure that employees working with apprentices have undergone appropriate DBS checks and possess integrity and judgment, guaranteeing they do not pose any threat or danger to apprentices.
What are my duties as an Apprentice?
  • To understand the concept of safeguarding and report any concerns to United Learning Apprenticeships.
  • Understand legal obligations regarding individual welfare
  • Be familiar with guidelines concerning reporting procedures.
